Deacon Bruno Rizzo, Jr, 82, a longtime resident of Baker, Louisiana, died at 7:33 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2011 with his family by his side. Bruno was born August 16, 1928 in San Antonio, TX to Bruno Rizzo and Elvira Salas Rizzo. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Muriel Baldo Rizzo three daughters, Karen Rizzo Serwan and husband Thomas Serwan, Lisa Rizzo Kopp and husband Thomas Kopp, and Gina Rizzo Guzzardo and husband John Guzzardo daughterinlaw, Beverly Rizzo nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bruno and Elvira Rizzo nine siblings, and his beloved son, Gary Rizzo. Visiting at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70811, on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 from 59 p.m., with a wake service at 7pm, conducted by Rev. Frank Bass. Visiting resumes at the church on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011 from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by Msgr. Robert H. Berggreen. Interment with military honors to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Pallbearers will be Shane Rizzo, Brandon Serwan, Thomas Kopp II, John Guzzardo, Robert Rizzo, and Rudy Rizzo. Honorary pallbearers are Thomas Kopp, Robert Kopp and Thomas Serwan. Bruno was a US Navy veteran. He served two years active service in the Pacific and five years in the Naval Reserves. He worked more than 30 years in the retail shoe business and 10 years in construction at Exxon. Bruno became an Ordained Deacon of the Catholic Diocese of East Baton Rouge Parish on May 23, 1980 and served the St. Isidore Parish Community until retiring in May 2010. Deacon Rizzo also served as Chaplain in the Prison Ministry for 27 years. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in Deacon Brunos name to St. Isidore Catholic Church.
