Daniel "Danny" Eugene Douthitt, 74 years old and a long-time resident of Baker, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 14, 2018 surrounded by his family. He entered this world on June 2, 1943 in Bloomington, IN., born to Auggie and Zelma Douthitt. Dan worked for the University of Illinois for many years before moving to Baker to serve as the operations manager at the Centroplex. He later accepted a position with Baton Rouge Public Works Department. He later retired from the Baton Rouge Public Works Department after 20 years of service. Dan was loved dearly by all who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dixie Lee Douthitt; son, Kevin Eugene Douthitt; daughters, Kim Douthitt Boyers and husband Kenny; Tracie Jean Davis and husband Joey; and grandchildren, Cody Davis, Anissa Boyers and Kyra Boyers.
Dan is preceded in death by his; parents, August and Zelma Lucille Douthitt; sister, Marna Douthitt
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, La., Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Philip Guay. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker, La.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Dante's Hope, 14427 Brown Road, Baker, LA 70714. Dante's Hope is committed to promoting the welfare of animals through rescue, medical treatment, and public education.
