Charlie John Lamonte, a lifelong resident of Baker, passed away peacefully at his home on January 5, 2021 at the age of 92. Charlie, a native of Tickfaw, was born to Sam and Mary Lamonte on September 30, 1928.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen Clegg Lamonte and his son, Charles “Anthony” Lamonte. Left behind to cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, Kathy Lamonte Crabtree (Tim), Jackie Lamonte Evans (Danny) and Larry Lamonte (Donna). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa: Christie Crabtree Nienaber, Andrew Crabtree, Brandi Evans Frey, Corey Evans, Heather Evans Cancienne, Ali Evans, Ryan Lamonte, Austin Lamonte, Lauren Lamonte Tyler, David Lamonte and Caroline Lamonte Smith and 17 great grandchildren.
Charlie was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1098 and one of the original members of Cason Creek Hunting Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Anyone who met Charlie had a friend for life and would be guaranteed a home cooked meal anytime they visited. His other hobbies included fishing and hunting, pastimes he shared with his sons and grandsons. When he wasn’t in the woods or near a pond, Charlie could be found working in his garden, his source of pride and joy. Until his final day, Charlie actively lived life to its fullest and met each and every day with a positive attitude and a warm smile.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 12:00 PM. The graveside service and burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Austin Lamonte, Ryan Lamonte, David Lamonte, Shaun Frey, Tyler Nienaber, and Charlie Nienaber.
The family requests that guests wear masks upon entering the visitation and service.
