A resident of Greenwell Springs, and a native of Mt. Hermon, he passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010 at 7:15pm the age of 76, at his home surrounded by family friends. He served as a boat captain on the Mekong Delta in the Mobile Riverine Force. He was a also a charter member of the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 371 and a member of the VFW Jeb Stuart Post 4224. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 from 59pm. Fleet Reserve Association Branch 371 will hold a Two Bell Ceremony at 7pm. Visiting in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010 from 9am until religious services at 11am, conducted by Dr. Kevin Hand. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, with graveside services officiated by Rev. Gene Rives. Pallbearers will be members of the Fleet Reserve Assn. Survived by his wife of 38 years, Dorothy Dottie Breland four stepchildren, Tommie Ducote husband Daniel, David Felter wife Linda, Jackie Bryant and Linda Lasseigne six step grandsons, Derek Joshua Felter, Dustin Ponthieux, and Wayne, Dan Chad Ducote eleven step great grandchildren, Avery Felter, Hunter Hailey Knight, Payton Preston Ponthieux, and Colten, Kyle, Erica, Dustin, Nathan Grace Ducote a sister, Betty Jean Alford a brother, Norman Breland and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, Jasper Victoria Breland five sisters, Mary Latane Alford, Janelle Schillings, Elouise Houston, Linda Barnett, Elizabeth Ann Traigle three brothers, James, Billy Ray, and Cedric Judd Breland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, or the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.
