Bernice Johnson Jewell
The Lord came and took our angel home to be with Him. Praise the Lord! She has done well; her work is complete.
A resident of Baker, Louisiana, Bernice Johnson Jewell was born in Bessemer, Alabama on October 3, 1925, and passed away on August 18, 2015 at the age of 89.
Bernice is survived by her son, Jimmy Jewell; niece and nephew, Dozine and James W. Sanders; great niece and nephew, Vicky and Phil Sanders; many cousins and other relatives in Alabama; and numerous devoted friends whom she loved dearly, including Jimmie Nell, Tony, Sammy, Linda, David, Stephanie, and Steve Sansone, Brenda and Bert Berthelot, Renate McDonald, Ollie and Louis Bergeron, and all of their children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jewell; mother, Maude Drew; father, Floyd Johnson; and sisters, Ruby Nadeau and Mildred Moore.
Bernice loved Ralph, her wire haired terrier that died a year ago from a snake bite. Heaven won't be heaven unless Ralph jumps into her arms the moment she arrives in glory.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Friday, August 21, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at 12:00pm, conducted by Rev. Mike Ferguson. She will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker. Serving as pallbearers are James Sanders, Sammy Sansone, David Sansone, Steve Sansone, Bert Berthelot, and Louis Bergeron. Honorary pallbearer is Tony Sansone.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Brother Arnold Austin and Rev. Mike Ferguson from Lanier Baptist Church where Bernice was a member; to Dr. Hastings and his nursing staff; and to the wonderful staff of St. Joseph Hospice.
