Bernadine Laney

A longtime resident of Baker and a native of Simmsport, she passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Baton Rouge. She was 82, and a retired registered nurse with the East Baton Rouge Council on Aging. Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, November 14, from 58pm, and on Friday, November 15, from 9:00am until religious services in the chapel at 11:00am, conducted by Deacon Don Ard. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. She is survived by two daughters and sonsinlaw, Kay Laney Lambert and Rick Lambert, and Debra Laney Smith and Dodd Smith, all of Ventress two sons and daughtersinlaw, Mike and Judy Laney of Baker, and Denton and Debbie Singleton Laney of St. Francisville sister, Cecile Penn of Baton Rouge 13 grandchildren, Mike Kimbrell, Paul Laney, Kevin Kimbrell, Melissa Laney, Dustin Smith, Kayla Smith Wernet, Ryan Laney, Brooke Laney, Gabe Lambert, Andi Matheu, Brian Dedon, Corey Dedon, and Gerald Dedon and 11 greatgrandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, William L. Laney parents, Bernadette E. Rabalais and Fulgence Dupont two brothers, Raymond and Dudley Dupont and two sisters, Gladys Houston and Inez Lazarus. Pallbearers are Michael and Kevin Kimbrell, Paul and Ryan Laney, David Wernet, and Corey Dedon. Honorary pallbearer is Dustin Smith. Bernadine was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. She was a great cook, and enjoyed speaking French, fishing, and bowling, but her passion was dancing.
