Benjamin Franklin Haddox, 91, born April 23, 1923, a resident of Slaughter, went to be with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on September 7, 2014. He was born in Caldwell Parish near Columbia, LA. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ferguson Haddox, daughter and soninlaw Susan and Keith Langheinz, son and daughterinlaw Darrell and Brenda Haddox, and son David Wayne Haddox, three grandchildren Kerry Langheinz Raines and husband Kyle, Dr. Kirk Langheinz and wife Jordan, and Clay Paul Haddox, and 5 greatgrandchildren Emerson, Kadence, and Koen Langheinz, and Keira and Kelsey Raines. He was preceded in death by his mother Minerva Kirkland Haddox and father William Sebron Haddox, sisters Viola Fisher, Josie Casdorph, Lydia Roddy, Edeline Bass, Lennie Upshaw, and brothers Clayton Haddox and Elijah Haddox, plus numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
He was employed 28 years as a multicraftsman by Crown Zellerbach paper mill and then by James Rivers paper mill. During World War II, he contributed to the war effort at the Dupont Bomb Plants in the states of Washington and South Carolina and as a machinist for Higgins Shipbuilding Co. in New Orleans.
In 1950, he entered Gardner Webb Junior College in Boiling Springs, NC and then went on to Mississippi College in Clinton, MS where he received his BA. He was an ordained Minister of the Gospel and taught the Bible in many churches. He helped build two churches and was the Assistant Pastor of one. He also taught Bible in nursing homes and jails for many years. Jesus Christ was the love of his life
Pallbearers will be Dr. Kirk Langheinz, Tollie Coates, James Gordon, Gary Mitchell, Gary Corbin, and Raymond Fisher. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Fisher, and Kyle Raines.
Family and friends are invited to Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker LA on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 with visitation beginning at 12:00pm until services at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6305 Groom Road, Baker LA.
