Basil Decker, Jr.

Basil Decker, Jr.

Basil Decker, Jr. went to the Lord at 4:10pm, on Sunday, February 1, 2015. He was surrounded by friends and family and in the midst of many saints and angels who interceded at his side. He was born on September 8, 1944 in Baton Rouge, LA, the son of Annie Carr and Basil I. Decker, Sr.

For 32 years, he worked as a customer service agent with Delta Air Lines at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport. He loved to be of service to everyone, and is remembered by many who checked in at the gate as a smiling face with a radio voice as he announced the flight information. After retirement in 2000, he took great pride as a Marshall for LSU Athletics, providing that same customer service at nearly every sporting venue that LSU offers.

A lifelong member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Basil was involved in the choir and as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus at Mother of Perpetual Help Council 4085.

Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Thursday, February 5, 2015, from 5-9pm, with a Vigil Service at 7pm. Visiting will resume at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Road, Baton Rouge, on Friday, February 6, from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by The Rev. Fr. Christopher J. Decker and concelebrated by priests of the Diocese of Baton Rouge and other representative dioceses. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.

He is survived by his wife, Marie, whom he loved in ways words cannot fully express; and by his son, The Rev. Fr. Christopher Decker, of whom he was exceedingly proud. He also leaves to intercede for his soul his loving sisters, Willena and Shirley, with whom he spent many of his retirement years at LSU Athletics.

May eternal rest be granted him, and may the angels lead him to paradise. May Jesus, to whom he dedicated all his service, show him mercy and the unfathomable depths of The Father's love.
