Heavens gates opened wide on March 20,2024, to receive Barbara "Sue" Lucille Bernard Strain. She was born on November 8, 1942, to Nelson and Beulah Randall Bernard in Hammond, Louisiana. She was the middle child of 3, along with an older sister, Carolyn Bernard Owen and a younger brother, John Bernard.
Barbara graduated from Hammond High School then attended Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned her degree in education. While in college, she met the love of her life, Tommy Jeff Strain. They married June 2,1968 and had had 2 daughters, Rebecca Strain Austin and Jennifer Strain Bankston.
She touched the lives of many students as a Home Economies teacher at Slidell High School and at Starkey Academy where she taught English and History. But the lives she touched the most were those of her children and her grandchildren, Faith Bauer, Cole Austin, Alyssa Bauer, Seth Austin, Grant Austin, Jake Bankston and Riley Bankston.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her 2 daughters; son-in-law, Greg Austin; and grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years and her parents.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, officiated by her grandson, Cole Austin. The graveside service and burial will follow at Magnolia United Methodist Church Cemetery, in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana.
