A World War II Veteran in the United States Army, and a resident of Baker, Arley passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Lane Regional Medical Center. He was 89, a native of Grayson, LA, and retired from Copolymer.
Visiting at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, on Friday, September 12, from 9am until religious services in the chapel at noon, conducted by Rev. Bud Traylor. Interment with military honors to follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
Arley is survived by two daughters and a soninlaw, Arlene and Paul Hellman of Central, and Melva Amedee of Baker a son and daughterinlaw, Martin and Jennifer Mayes of Clarklake, Michigan a sister, Jenny Wilks of Baton Rouge and four grandchildren, Elliott Amedee, Emilye Everett and husband Matthew, Garrett Mayes, and Grayson Mayes.
Arley was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Lena Martin Mayes son, Randall Mayes five sisters three brothers and his second wife, Lillian Booth Mayes.
Arley was an avid fisherman, and loved to travel. He had a passion for bluegrass music and gardening, and was always building things in his workshop. He had a fierce love for his family, and will be sadly missed. We love you PawPaw. May the angels be rejoicing.
